How to love your body more

Recently someone complimented my legs and I proceed to acknowledge that I had great legs and they are. I was not shy to acknowledge the fact as well as accept the compliment. They seemed a bit shocked at about my response, which got me thinking about how easy it is to forget to love yourself. Here are a few tips to get over that and get you not only loving your body but be able to accept compliments with ease. (I love being showered with compliments)

  1. Spend more time Naked– Yes you read that right. I’ve noticed that there’s people who are hardly naked outside the bathroom or shower and are quick to hide or cover their bodies. I spend a lot of time moisturizing my skin before I get dressed, I even make my bed while I’m naked. (oops TMI). (This might be a bit difficult if you live with young children but try to get some alone “naked” time.)

  1. Know what you like and spend more time doing that– This is a bit tricky because it’s much easier to find the bad in anything. Not knowing what you want or being unsure of yourself causes you to lose confidence and self-doubt easily sets in. Self-doubt is crippling; just think about the last you doubted yourself, what happened?
  2. Get friends that tell you that you’re pretty – lol friends who make you feel good about yourself. I also think its key to surround yourself with positive people who encourage you to chase after your dreams. You might have to dig deep for this one to work. The older you get the harder it is to make new friends however the best part is quality of friends is more important.

  1. Appreciate your body for what it already does for you.  – You are able to breathe, think, and taste food (imagine if you couldn’t taste all the delicious food or smell the flowers) and so much more.  Listen to your body– When you’re tired, take a nap   
  2. Listen to music that uplifts your mood– There are many songs that advocate for self-love and I particularly like Colbie Caillat’s song Try. There’s also Meghan Trainor  All about that bass  India Arie’s Video and I am not hair, Beyoncé’s songs  this music that just makes me feel good. The list is endless, my point is  find music that brings you joy, stirs up positive emotions in you and uplifts your soul.

  1. Practice “body loving”- With a lot of body shaming on the internet and in society, it is up to you to remind yourself of the great tool that is your body. I recommend you make a list of what you love about your body and before you come up with excuses about why you can’t or whatever ask your friend, colleague or partner what they like about your body and believe them. Then from there practice body loving, take time to focus on these wonderful traits in your body whether it’s your kinky, unruly hair to your stretch marks.

    Ps listening to the song while I type this it is such a great choice also enjoy I am not my hair which I haven’t heard in a while. Love the list I think you mentioned all the important thing that help you love your body. This is such an uplifting post with an awesome message I will refer back to when I am feeling yucky! haha

    Thanks for the reminder to love our bodies, which really means loving one’s self. It reminded me of a quote or something that says” You can’t give what you do not have. If you don’t love your body you will definitely start body shaming. It was hard for me to be honest but thank God who tells us that “Am fearfully and wonderfully made. Part one thou ummm,
