Meet Tegan Burger, I had  the honour of meeting her at the Adidas Body Brunch and she is making moves and changes in the yoga world. Thanks to her mother she has been fortunate enough to have had yoga in her life from a very young age, however only in 2011 did everything fall into place. She completed Living Yoga’s Teacher Training that year and began teaching in 2012. Since then she has completed another teacher training with Jim Harrington, as well as his 500 hour (advanced) training.

In 2013 She was even more fortunate to go to India where she met many wonderful teachers and wandered through some amazing ashrams. In April-May 2015 she completed the 300 hour Jivamukti Teacher Training in New York with David Life and Sharon Gannon. She is currently studying a BSc in Nutritional Science which she plans to further help her clients as well as herself. Tegan says “Yoga keeps me in check with myself, when I don’t practise, I’m not myself. The more I practise, the more I get to know who I really am.’ Let find out more about her

Did you always know you wanted to practice and teach Yoga?

No. Yoga sort of walked into my life when I was 18 and never left. Up until this year I still thought I would teach yoga part time, but the more I teach, the more I practice, the more I realise it brings me so much joy.

What is you idea of a good day?

My idea of a good day is waking up, moving my body and getting sweaty, drinking a smoothie, walking my dogs and making a delicious meal to share with my partner.

What are you most passionate about?

I think my passion lies with helping people, whether that means through overcoming a fear, learning something new or bringing a smile to peoples faces.

What advice would you give to someone trying to get healthier?

Start small. Don’t set unrealistic goals that you can’t achieve, start with adding one new healthy habit into your life at a time and soon those habits will become second nature.

Where do you get your motivation from?

Yoga is a practice that teaches you to overcome stressful situations through the physical postures, the breath and meditation. Without this in my life, I am not the lighter person I prefer to be. So for me being a better person is what keeps me motivated.

What is your mantra on life?

My mantra on life right now would be “Work for it.” If there is something that you want in your life, go after it. If you want to be the best at what you do, put the time in.

What is one thing you can do to make your day better?

Make a short list of all that you have to be grateful for. I start with having a partner who loves me, a roof over my head, food in the fridge, etc.. Sometimes we forget that we have so much in our lives and when we remind ourselves of this, we immediately let go of smaller problems.

Can anyone start yoga even if they are  not flexible?

Absolutely. You want to start yoga to improve your flexibility and lengthen those tight muscles, improve your other training and reduce your risk of injury.
