Dumbbells and Delights

Live Well, Live Bold

Event: #DDHike 3

I love hiking so much this year I decided to include my readers in the process. 6  months ago I hosted the first DDHike it went so well I knew it had to be a regular thing. I’ve since hosted 2 more hikes and this was the last one for 2017. Check out the fun we had.

The one thing blogging made me realise is that it takes a village not only to raise a child but for personal development of an adult, for growth. If you want to learn a new skill or better yourself whether physically or mentally or emotionally, you need a community. A community can motivate you when you down ; a community can help you with tasks when you have too much on your hands. So don't be an island, grow your village, learn to delegate task and learn to ask for help. It's needed for growth. And help your fellow person. Venue

Klipriviersburg Nature Reserve  a 644 hectare nature reserve with lovely hiking trails through the koppies. This reserve features an historical farmstead, excellent birding and wildlife, which include blesbok, zebra and duiker. You may decide to take it easy and walk for 30+ minutes alongside spruit, or, for the enthusiastic there are longer walks of up to 3 hours which range across koppies in a nature reserve. It is fully fenced and there is a guard at the gate. More info on footprint.co.za

Weather

The weather turned out to be great after a forecast of rain. I blindly chose not to cancel the event and hoped it wouldn’t rain so I was thrilled when it didn’t and we got to cover a different part of the reserve that I had never been to.

Great scenery and trails

There’s several trails in the reserve and we interloped most of them, the Dassie trail being the favourite as we got to go to the lookout point. We also stopped briefly at river.

Changes I made

DDhike 2 wasn’t well attended I knew i had to change things up. While we had a great time I wanted the D & D hiking club to grow,

  1. Had prizes to give away

Our main prize was the Contour 28L valued at R 599 from Hi-tec. I’m grateful for their support. I also added cellphone armbands which I bought from Miniso.

2. Opened the hikes for kids

3. Chose a venue I knew well
