Every Worker’s Day weekend for the last 2 years has been a hiking weekend, it all started with my 101 goals and has quickly become my favourite exercise. I’ve talked about it here and here. So I thought it would be a great idea to include my readers in my favourite experiences and I planned an event via Facebook.
Kloofendaal Nature Reserve in the Roodeport Area is a great venue for hiking with about 3 short trails to follow. I had planned on going on the Rocky Ridge trail which is 3,5 km but we ended up covering a little bit of every trail mainly the Dassie trail. The nature reserve has some really great views and even a bird watching facility. The dam was a great area for photos and a quick break. The weather was great too. All in all it was a great hike.
What I learned
- As a host of a hike you need to know the trail fairly well so as to guide everyone correctly. ( I didn’t know the route even though there were markers we had started at the back of the route)
- Be accommodating to the people attending by taking breaks. (we did take breaks to take pics and observe the scenery)
- People are always looking for new things to try out.
Please also check out Camille’s post about her experience on the hike and my sister Sandy’s post. Cherice also shared a vlog on her channel. I want to thank everyone who showed up and supported me, I truly appreciate it.
I will definitely be hosting a few more hikes this year, in the meantime check out our photos on Facebook.
