Adidas Boosts Bloggers Day

This year one of my many goals was to improve and even monetise my blog. So when an opportunity came along through TouchCentral and Adidas SA to enter a competition for SA next sports blogger I jumped on it literally hours before the competition closed. Ten bloggers were selected and flown to Cape Town  and I was part of the top ten.

As competitive as I am I had to find out who else was coming, I did some cyber-stalking. I found Karien from Running the race, Atlegang from That Indie Runner and Mrs. X from Oluthando blog whom I had the pleasure of sitting with on the plane. I also got to meet Gijane face to face she was the Delightful Peep of July here on the blog.

Adidas is definitely working towards changing the narrative of how sports stories are shared and are doing their part by equipping bloggers. After breakfast we got down to business with the first speaker Ben Karpinski from The Bounce an award winning sports blogger he shared about how to start a sports blog. I must admit I was surprised that there was so much more to learn considering I already knew how to blog.

We also had Kelly Walden the Digital Marketing Manager of Adidas South Africa and she shared about SEO, Analytics, Boosting presence with social media and Fashion Blogger Aqeelah Harron from Fashion breed who shared about how to monetize your blog (something I truly needed).

The key lessons that I learned

  1. You should write with the reader in mind (I’ve been selfish in my writing)
  2. Becoming a full time blogger is actually possible here in South Africa, since it can open up other streams of income.
  3. Tag key brands in your social media posts linking to your blog however make sure it’s relevant to the brand – the value the brand creates to you is credibility *I loved this because I kinda thought it would be spamming a brand*
  4. Become an unconventional expert, a source to be trusted and related to.

There was so much more that I learned and will definitely be working on implementing them on my blog. After each speaker spoke there was a Q & A and a chance to win. I won an outdoor bag which will be suitable for my hikes. I answered the question about the difference about a Media Kit and a proposal. I’m glad I paid attention for this one.

  1. I was wondering if you ever considered changing the structure of your site?
Its very well written; I love what youve got to say. But maybe you could a little more
in the way of content so people could connect with it better.
Youve got an awful lot of text for only having one or
two images. Maybe you could space it out better?
